Climate change doesn’t win you a climate election: party competition in the 2021 Norwegian general election

The 2021 Norwegian General Election was hailed as a ‘climate election’, yet the Greens only won three seats. What explains centrality of climate change and why did this not translate into more success for Greens? academic literature emphasises valence nature change, meaning it is consensus issue that parties compete on competence. Presenting original voter data, we demonstrate to be case. faltered because perceived lack competence, but fierce competition which fragmented ownership. Moreover, show ownership result voters’ differing views policy options presented by parties. Our article therefore questions makes significant contribution party politics well (re)politicisation politics.
